Thuringian Action Alliance "City Centers with a Future"
Lively, vibrant, and diverse – that's how our Thuringian city centers should be. A place where trade, gastronomy, and commerce flourish; a place where public and cultural life pulsates; a place where residents and visitors enjoy meeting and interacting. This is the guiding principle for our city centers.
Structural changes in the retail sector, demographic shifts in our society, the noticeable effects of climate change, and the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic are currently posing major challenges for our city centers. Strengthening Thuringia's city centers in the long term, ensuring their functional diversity, and strategically orienting them for the future, while involving all relevant stakeholders, is now more than ever a central task of sustainable urban development policy.

Vibrant city centers – we can do it together!
A key foundation for strengthening Thuringia's city centers is intensive and targeted cooperation between state policymakers, municipalities and their residents, as well as all stakeholders relevant to city centers. The Thuringian Action Alliance serves as the communication, exchange, and working platform for this Office of the Action Alliance, located at LEG Thüringen, pools existing resources and expertise together with its alliance partners and structures the development process with the aim of preparing effective measures to strengthen our city centers and putting them into practical implementation.
The Thuringian Action Alliance
On June 8, 2021, the Thuringian Action Alliance – “City Centers with a Future” was founded and a joint Alliance agreement signed. The following stakeholders have since been working in partnership within the nationwide alliance for the long-term positive development of city centers:
pilot projects
Within the framework of the alliance's work, the working groups on housing and living, climate and vacancy develop ideas for useful projects and support them through to implementation. This work paves the way for implementation in other locations in Thuringia and perhaps even beyond.
Working groups
Three working groups are active within the framework of the Thuringian Action Alliance. The central tasks of the working groups are interdisciplinary communication, the exchange of expertise on specific topics, and the development of concepts for measures and projects to strengthen Thuringian city centers.
Living and life in the city
The sustainable strengthening of the functionality of Thuringian city centers is a central goal of the working group's work within the action alliance. The working group is developing pilot projects and exemplary measures that are intended to be applicable in Thuringia's large, medium-sized, and small cities.

climate
The working group's main objectives are to ensure comprehensive knowledge transfer and the development of pilot projects for climate adaptation and climate protection measures. Accordingly, the quality of life and public spaces in the city is a particular focus.

Managing vacancies
The working group aims to develop solutions for various types of vacant properties through constructive dialogue. No fear of change – but rather a commitment to innovation!
