Thuringia's economy is characterized today by a broadly diversified industrial sector. Thuringian industrial exports recently reached a volume of around 14 billion euros. This continues the moderate upward trend of recent years.

Vehicle parts remained in particularly high demand, followed by plastic products, electrical equipment, and measuring, control, and regulation technology products. Pharmaceutical products are also playing an increasingly important role in the Free State's export mix.

The most important sales markets for Thuringian products remain the USA, China, France and Austria, as well as other European neighboring countries.
