Milestones
On the way to a modern economic, investment and technology location

1992
On May 15, 1992, the LEG is founded in Erfurt. Its task is to drive forward the expansion of Thuringia as an investment and business location as an instrument of the state government and to increase the quality of life in the Free State.

1993
Start of one of Germany's largest urban development projects: LEG acquires the industrial brownfield site of Erfurt-Brühl from the Treuhand and develops the inner-city area into a vibrant district in the coming years.

1995
The Thuringian State Economic Development Agency (TLW) is being integrated into the LEG. As a result, the State Development Agency will henceforth be responsible for investor attraction and Thuringia marketing.

1996
On the Kindel in Eisenach, a former military area, LEG begins development; subsequently, the area develops into an attractive industrial location that provides space for a large number of companies, primarily from the vehicle manufacturing sector.

1997
LEG takes over the regional management in the "Städtedreieck am Saalebogen" and promotes a variety of projects in the three cities of Saalfeld, Rudolstadt and Bad Blankenburg over the next 15 years.

2000
LEG begins developing the former industrial site Kyffhäuserhütte Artern; in the same year, the conversion project "neues bauen am horn“ in Weimar, through which LEG realizes innovative projects for the housing of the future, becomes an EXPO project.

2004
In Schleusingen, the LEG takes stock: The goal of comprehensive urban redevelopment has essentially been achieved. Listed buildings have been upgraded, squares present themselves in a new ambiance, and the old town radiates attractiveness.

2005
With the start of the development of the new industrial site "Erfurter Kreuz“ in Arnstadt, LEG begins a true success story: Within a few years, the new site attracts renowned companies such as Daimler, Masdar PV, Lufthansa, Rolls-Royce, Bosch, and IHI.

2007
LEG focuses on work-life balance: In the middle of the year, the "LEG Summer School“ for employees' children celebrates its premiere. Five years later, in April 2012, LEG, together with the city of Erfurt and partner companies, celebrates the start of the project for its own company daycare center.

2008
The Ringelberg continues to grow: With the starting signal for the fourth construction phase, LEG is steadily driving forward the development of the largest residential area in Thuringia, thus ensuring a higher quality of life in the state capital.

2010
The newly founded Thuringian Energy and GreenTech-Agency (ThEGA) is based at LEG and, on behalf of the Thuringian Ministry of Economic Affairs, drives the expansion of the Free State into the “green engine” of Germany.

2011
The impending shortage of skilled workers is being fought: In spring, the Thuringian Agency for Skilled Worker Recruitment (ThAFF) will launch. It promotes Thuringia as a place of employment, addresses commuters, and works within a network.

2012
The LEG is becoming even more international: With the official launch of the "Thüringen International" division, the LEG is expanding its activities in the field of foreign trade and focusing on target markets from the USA to China and from Brazil to Russia.

2012
The Thuringian Cluster Management (ThCM) is created as an instrument for the expansion and establishment of clusters. In the course of implementing the Thuringian Innovation Strategy, the state government is relocating the RIS3 office to coordinate the implementation process at the ThCM.

2013
In September, on behalf of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the "Welcome Center Thuringia“ opened. It is a comprehensive contact and advisory center for foreign skilled workers and for Thuringian companies that want to recruit employees from abroad.

2014
The city of Erfurt and LEG sign a development contract for the project "ICE-City“. Around the ICE junction at Erfurt main station, LEG will develop large-scale areas. To this end, LEG concludes an initial purchase agreement with Deutsche Bahn AG for the first partial area.

2015
On April 25, the 3rd Thuringian State Garden Show will open in Schmalkalden. LEG acted here as the redevelopment agency; among other things, it renovated the western suburb and carried out the expansion of the local transport hub at the train station.

2016
LEG is completing extensive restoration and site clearance work at the Rudolstadt-Schwarza location – this benefits the companies on site and enables or facilitates the settlement of new companies.

2018

The "prizeotel" opens in the immediate vicinity of Erfurt Central Station. This marks the completion of the first visible building block of the ICE-City Erfurt.
Elsewhere, urgently needed (social) housing is being created.

2020
In Diedorf, the groundbreaking ceremony for the revitalization of the ESDA industrial area took place. LEG is part of a project group and breathes new life into the former stocking factory.

2021
In Oberhof, the excavators are rolling for the residential area "Am Dimitroff". After many contributions to the urban development and tourism development of Oberhof, LEG is once again contributing a building block to make Thuringia's most famous winter sports destination even more attractive.

2023
With the campaign “Hidden Champions”, the LEG honors around 100 Thuringian global market and technology leaders and brings business and politics together at the first ChampionsMEET.
