Short paths in the network
The Eisenach region is the spatial focus of the industry. This is exactly where the geographical center of Germany is located.
This means: Companies investing in Thuringia benefit from the proximity to the major automobile manufacturers of Germany and Europe. Five highways connect the federal state with all metropolises and manufacturing facilities. The airports in Erfurt, Leipzig, and Frankfurt are in close proximity. All German OEM locations can be reached by truck within 5 hours.

CATL
The Chinese battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology Ltd. (CATL), one of the world's leading manufacturers, is building its first plant for lithium-ion batteries outside of China in Arnstadt. This is the first series production of batteries for electric cars in Germany. Around 2 billion euros are being invested and 2,000 jobs are being created. The customers include almost all German automobile manufacturers. Not only production but also research and development are planned; the European CATL logistics center is also being established in Thuringia. The Free State is thus developing into a center for e-mobility and battery technology.
MDC Power GmbH
In 2003, the engine plant MDC Power GmbH – a subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz AG – began operations. From the very first engine, the engine builders placed great emphasis on the highest quality and were able to continuously expand the product range. Today, MDC Power employees assemble their units in numerous variants: engines with the quality seal "Made in Thuringia" are available from 95 to 360 hp and are delivered to vehicle plants on five continents. They are used in almost all Mercedes-Benz passenger car and van model series – from the A-Class to the S-Class, from Mercedes-AMG to the Sprinter.
Bell Equipment
In Eisenach, the South African construction machinery manufacturer Bell Equipment Ltd. produces. In 2003, the globally active group established its dump truck plant in Thuringia. Bell Equipment is one of the two leading providers on the German dumper market. Bell is also distinguished at the Thuringia site by its intensive commitment to employee qualification.
BorgWarner Transmission Systems
The skilled labor potential, the good transport connections, and the unbureaucratic support from the authorities also convinced the US automotive supplier BorgWarner. In Arnstadt, the company built two production facilities for manufacturing clutches for dual-clutch transmissions and all-wheel drive systems, among others for the Bugatti Veyron.
Borbet
Since 2004, BORBET has been operating the largest production facility for aluminum wheels in Europe in Bad Langensalza, Thuringia, employing around 900 people. The Bad Langensalza site was chosen for good reason: there has always been and still is a large number of qualified specialists for aluminum and magnesium casting on site.
