The success story of the industrial location “Erfurter Kreuz“ in Arnstadt | Amt Wachsenburg begins in 2005 with the investment of N3 Engine Overhaul Services. The industrial area in the heart of Thuringia today covers a total of 334 hectares (net area). After the realization of the fifth expansion stage, it could offer space for around 25 companies and approximately 5,000 people as a starting point for their daily work. The range of fields of work is very diverse: engines that need to be maintained, steel that is processed for car bodies, light signals that ensure safety and comfort in the automotive industry, mattresses, mustard, sustainable packaging materials, or battery cells that the world's largest manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) produces in Arnstadt| Amt Wachsenburg for the global market.
This shows: global corporations such as Marquardt, Daimler, or Dachser find ideal conditions for their success here, just as small and medium-sized enterprises do. In the immediate vicinity of the Erfurt Cross, further companies are located in adjacent commercial and industrial areas, and numerous research institutions as well as the Technical University of Ilmenau or the University of Erfurt are only a stone's throw away. Thanks to the good transport connections and central location in Thuringia and Germany, the industrial area is thus quickly accessible.
Thuringia must be competitive for investors, and we are creating the conditions for this with modern, well-developed and excellently located industrial areas such as the 'Erfurt Cross'. The companies CATL and N3 Engine Overhaul Services prove with their investment decisions that Thuringia is an attractive location. With their high technological potential and the large number of qualified jobs, both are a great asset to the Free State.
A strong signal: companies from all over the world are not only settling here, they are also expanding, and to a considerable extent. Such as currently N3 engine overhaul services. The joint company of Lufthansa Technik and Rolls-Royce is investing around 150 million euros in its Thuringia site. This will result in, among other things, a new logistics center, an expanded factory hall, space for a new cleaning system for engine parts, as well as office space.

Steps in the development of the Erfurter Kreuz
Kick-off
In 2005, as the state development company, we began acquiring land around the Erfurter Kreuz motorway interchange on behalf of the Free State. Since then, the area has been developed into a modern industrial estate. The development and construction of the necessary infrastructure is being carried out in five construction phases. This development included the expansion of the complete infrastructure, including the provision of all necessary utility connections such as electricity, (waste) water, gas, and IT. In addition, the expansion of the regional sewage treatment plant and a rail connection were added.
