Development of foreign markets and meeting the demand for skilled workers in Thuringia

International business contacts for Thuringian companies and expansion of research cooperation through delegation trips

Delegation trip to Vietnam and Singapore 2019

The largest delegation ever led by a Thuringian Minister President visited Vietnam and Singapore in April 2019. Together with Bodo Ramelow, over 100 participants from the fields of business, science, and politics traveled to the two Southeast Asian countries.

International business contacts for Thuringian companies

The many small and medium-sized enterprises in Thuringia face major future challenges: These include, not least, the necessary development of foreign markets as well as meeting the demand for skilled workers. Only through internationalization and cross-border cooperation can companies and research institutes develop successfully, and without immigration from outside, the skilled labor gap cannot be closed. The LEG Foreign Trade Team "Thuringia International" (TI) and the LEG work area "Thuringian Agency for Skilled Worker Recruitment" (ThAFF) provide active support in this regard.

Goals

  • Open access for companies to international markets
  • Establish business ventures beyond Thuringia's borders
  • Find cooperation partners for business and science
  • Address skilled workers from the international economy

“Unlock international potential for exports, cooperations, and the recruitment of skilled workers”

Andreas Krey

Andreas Krey Spokesperson of the LEG management

"The great journey to Vietnam and Singapore shows that Thuringia must look beyond the horizon in terms of internationalization, business relations, and recruitment of skilled workers – on all continents there are interesting partners to close deals, establish cooperations, and find the employees of tomorrow. Our offerings are attractive for companies as well as for research institutes and universities.“

Preparation of the delegation trip for Thuringian entrepreneurs

    1

The trip with a three-digit number of participants and more than 60 program items in two countries required complex advance organization– TI has a corresponding international network and many years of experience for this.

    2

The preparation ranged from addressing Thuringian stakeholders with intensive promotion of the travel program to contacts with international partners in the destination countries, including politicians, companies, and foreign trade chambers.

    3

On site, intensive support was provided to the delegation participants, along with the organization of meetings and events, including company visits, roundtables, cooperation exchanges with hundreds of discussion options, and thematic events.

    4

Following the trip, a comprehensive evaluation of the results and a follow-up and assessment with all participants were conducted to make the best possible use of and expand the Contacte that were established.

    New international cooperations

During the trip, a large number of Contacten were established and expanded; the participants initiated planning with their Asian partners, concluded cooperations, and agreed on the employment of 60 trainees from Vietnam. Among other things, the Erfurt University of Applied Sciences, the Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences, and the Innovent e.V. cluster signed three cooperation agreements in Vietnam. Production sites, a German hospital, and a training center were planned. In Singapore, where a Thuringian delegation visited for the first time, numerous individual business contacts were made for the companies; the research cooperation was expanded.
