The implementation of the "Regional Innovation Strategy for Smart Specialisation and Economic Change in Thuringia (RIS Thuringia)" is accompanied by comprehensive monitoring (RIS monitoring).

The focus is on the research and development projects (R&D) of Thuringian companies and research institutions, which are specifically supported by funding programs of the state, the federal government, and the EU.

However, it is not only the R&D projects that are important. All activities that address an innovative environment in Thuringia and support its development play a role. These activities encompass a broad range, from building and expanding the innovation infrastructure, promoting technology transfer, supporting start-ups, attracting skilled workers, and network activities, to measures for internationalization.

The state of Thuringia supports this innovative environment within the framework of the Free State of Thuringia's funding program for the promotion of research, technology and innovation (FTI-Thuringia). For example, in the period 2021-2023, more than 29 million euros in grants were approved for innovation infrastructure, particularly for equipment at research institutions. State funding is supplemented by federal programs and many Thuringian organizations that act as sponsors of activities or initiatives.

The now available factsheet "Innovation-supporting Activities 2022-2023" bundles these diverse activities and thus offers a thematic insight for the first time. Together with the already published factsheet "R&D Activities in 2023", it forms the annual evaluation of the RIS monitoring.
