Since the displays are not integrated into the dashboard below, but into the windshield, the driver can capture the information without taking their eyes off the road. At Zeiss, the Jena-based Microoptics division acted as a pioneer for the new technology. The engineers developed a multifunctional smart glass technology. Micro-optics with the finest structures are used, which make it possible to integrate cameras directly into the display glass. They are also suitable for projections, lighting, or filtering. "Together we will set a new standard in the automotive industry and revolutionize the way information is displayed in vehicles," said Bernhard Ohnesorge, member of the management board of Carl Zeiss Jena GmbH, on the occasion of the new partnership. The companies have jointly initiated the first steps in product development and plan to enter mass production within the next five years. (hw)
