A world tour in the heart of Germany

It's travel time! Let's go to France, Italy, Norway, Malaysia, or Peru! Sounds like a packed itinerary and far away? It doesn't have to be – Thuringia, an intercultural region and an inspiring tourist destination, combines destinations within a short distance that bear a striking resemblance to global tourist hotspots.

Anyone looking out over Europe's largest interconnected reservoir system from above the Saale River might think they're in Norway: Like a Scandinavian fjord landscape, the vast expanses of water, framed by deep forests in southeastern Thuringia, enchant every nature lover. The Dornburg Castles, nestled amidst vineyards, also have a picturesque feel – here, where the famous poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe repeatedly enjoyed the ambiance, visitors feel transported to France. And strolling through Erfurt's old town with its narrow lanes and bustling squares, perhaps even passing the Merchants' Bridge, reminiscent of the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, one breathes in Italian flair. Furthermore, the Dragon Gorge in Eisenach evokes Peru, and the treetop walkway in the Hainich National Park brings Malaysia to mind – examples upon examples that invite you on a very special "world tour" in the heart of Germany.
