World market leader in Thuringia: asphericon GmbH

The cradle of the global optical industry is Jena, where Carl Zeiss, Ernst Abbe, and Otto Schott worked in the 19th century. To this day, the university city in eastern Thuringia is home to world market leaders in this technology sector, one of whom is asphericon GmbH. It is a technology leader in aspherical lenses and systems: optical systems that are significantly more precise and economical than competing products. The company is growing continuously and recently laid the foundation stone for a new building in Jena.

As the company announced, it was able to continue its growth trajectory last year, exceeding 50 percent, despite the pandemic. It is now constructing a four-story office building with 1,200 square meters of new usable space, tripling its existing area. Asphericon's administrative and development departments will be housed here. The investment, totaling approximately 15 million euros, places a strong emphasis on sustainability: the building is being constructed by Ed. Züblin AG using the MOLENO serial and modular timber-hybrid construction system. (hw)
