Global Market Leader in Thuringia: asphericon GmbH

The cradle of the global optical industry is in Jena, where Carl Zeiss, Ernst Abbe, and Otto Schott worked in the 19th century. To this day, the university town in East Thuringia is home to world market leaders in this technology sector, and one of them is asphericon GmbH. It is the technology leader for aspherical lenses and systems: these are optical systems that are significantly more precise and economical than competing products. The company is growing continuously and recently laid the foundation stone for a new building in Jena.

As the company announced, it was able to continue its course last year despite the pandemic situation, with growth of over 50 percent. It is now constructing a four-story office building with 1,200 m² of new usable space, which corresponds to a tripling of its previous area. The administrative and development departments of asphericon will work here in the future. With an investment of around 15 million euros, the focus is not least on sustainability: the building is being erected by Ed. Züblin AG using the serial and modular timber-hybrid construction system MOLENO. (hw)
