Where Hemingway discovered Thuringia's beautiful sides…

Thuringia offers enchanting natural landscapes and attractive options in gastronomy and hospitality – the "Saxenhof" in the southwest of the state is a prime example. This traditional establishment has hosted the Austrian Emperor Franz I, the poet Ernest Hemingway, and the East German politician Günter Schabowski. Celebrities were also drawn to the scenic Rhön region, often described as "Germany's most beautiful low mountain range.".

The "Saxenhof" breathes history: the building in Dermbach was constructed in 1623, and today guests stay in a charming, listed half-timbered house, which was extensively reconstructed in 2009. Twenty-seven rooms and five large apartments in the quiet annex welcome guests. Culinary delights are provided by Michelin-starred chef and managing director Björn Leist, who this year.. “Rhöner Botschaft” The hotel has won the Thuringian Tourism Award. The wellness area features a Finnish sauna, steam room, ice plunge pool, and Kneipp pool. The surrounding area is ideal for hiking, mountain biking, or fishing: it was the diverse fly-fishing opportunities that drew Ernest Hemingway to this beautiful corner of Thuringia in 1931. (hw)
