The competition brought together 46 teams from 13 countries, developing innovative quantum applications. The Ilmenau team impressed with the QuPIV algorithm, which calculates cross-correlations for flow measurement – with applications in aerospace, automotive industry, or urban planning.

The prize money of $30,000 enables researchers Julia Ingelmann, Philipp Pfeffer and Theo Käufer to present their work internationally. Pfeffer received the award in Tokyo. “This award confirms the innovative strength and excellence of TU Ilmenau in the field of quantum computing . We are especially strong in applying quantum algorithms to practically relevant problems,” said Professor Jörg Schumacher. Theo Käufer is now researching at MIT, USA. First place went to TU Delft, and third place to the Japanese startup QunaSys.
