Tiefensee welcomes the expansion of engine specialist N3 in Arnstadt

Thuringia's Minister of Economic Affairs, Wolfgang Tiefensee, welcomed the decision by Lufthansa and Rolls-Royce to service additional engines in Arnstadt, thereby expanding their commitment to Thuringia. "This is a decision with a significant impact, from which the entire region will benefit," said Tiefensee. He stated that the outstanding quality, high flexibility, and on-time delivery performance of the Thuringian site and its more than 600 employees were decisive factors in securing the contract. Together with the aircraft maintenance company HAITEC Aircraft Maintenance GmbH at Erfurt Airport, the expansion of N3 is gradually developing a "distinctive profile" for Thuringia in the field of aircraft maintenance. "N3 is once again confirming its role as one of the major drivers of growth and employment in the Thuringian economy," said Tiefensee. The state is therefore supporting the investment in the site through its funding programs. Lufthansa and Rolls-Royce decided in November 2004 to establish a new competence center for Airbus engines in Thuringia. In mid-2005, construction began on the plant in the Erfurter Kreuz/Arnstadt industrial park. Here, Rolls-Royce Trent 500, 700, and 900 aircraft engines for the Airbus A340, A330, and A380 are tested, serviced, and repaired. The total investment for the project amounted to approximately €90 million. N3 commenced operations in 2007. Starting in autumn 2016, the engines for the Airbus A350 aircraft, which will be used by Lufthansa and other airlines worldwide, will also be serviced in Arnstadt. "N3 places high organizational, economic, and technological demands on its employees and the business environment," Tiefensee emphasized. "This expansion demonstrates that Thuringia is up to these challenges. We offer excellent conditions for business development and growth."
