Thuringian invention revolutionizes the recording of fingerprints

An invention by the Jena biometric start-up IDloop GmbH ensures more speed and security in the capture of fingerprints: The company has developed the world's first 3D scanner that captures fingerprints contactlessly and with microscopic resolution. The EU is supporting the further development of the system to market maturity within the framework of its “EIC Accelerator“ program with ten million euros. IDloop also received the Thuringian Innovation Award.

Conventional methods for capturing fingerprints rely on contact, which is time-consuming and associated with contamination and germ exposure. The IDloop scanner captures the individual characteristics of fingerprints contactlessly in the shortest possible time with previously unattained high detail accuracy. Given its speed, it can significantly increase throughput, for example in international travel. The precision of the method also ensures that the captures are always compatible with existing fingerprint databases, which is often not the case with previous methods. With its innovation, IDloop sets a new standard in the global market and is the best example of the strength of Thuringia as a technology location. (hw)
