Thuringian invention revolutionizes fingerprint scanning

An invention by the Jena-based biometrics startup IDloop GmbH ensures faster and more secure fingerprint capture: The company has developed the world's first 3D scanner that captures fingerprints contactlessly and with microscopic resolution. The EU is supporting the further development of the system to market maturity with ten million euros as part of its "EIC Accelerator" program. IDloop also received the Thuringian Innovation Prize.

Conventional fingerprint scanning methods rely on touch, which is time-consuming and prone to contamination and germs. The IDloop scanner captures the individual characteristics of fingerprints contactlessly within a very short time and with unprecedented accuracy. Its speed can significantly improve processing times, for example, in international travel. The accuracy of the process also ensures that the scans are always compatible with existing fingerprint databases, which is often not the case with previous methods. With this innovation, IDloop sets a new standard in the global market and is a prime example of the strength of Thuringia as a technology hub. (hw)
