In early September, a Thuringian business group traveled to Asia’s fourth-largest economy – South Korea. Organized together with our partners Germany Trade and Invest, OptoNet e.V., and automotive thüringen e.V., the itinerary included stops in the capital Seoul and Gyeonggi-do Province. This highly innovative country, home to giants such as LG, Samsung, Kia, and Hyundai, is interesting both as an export market for the Thuringian economy and as a source of exciting opportunities for research collaborations. The innovative start-up culture and the local research focuses on autonomous vehicles, intelligent transport systems, entertainment systems, battery technologies, and automated production provide points of connection for cross-border cooperation with the Thuringian participants, who presented their strengths in the areas of sensor technology, electronics, and electromobility. However, at the networking event and the investor seminar also included in the program, the focus was on presenting the Thuringian business location and addressing potential investors. This built on a visit by the Minister of State at the Chancellery, Carsten Schneider, to the ambassador in Seoul in early May 2024. On that occasion, Thuringia hosted a business breakfast, during which interesting Contacte were initiated. (maa)
