How can the successful integration of international skilled workers into companies be achieved, and what opportunities does the dual training system offer in this context? The German Professional School (GPS) specialist forum will provide valuable information and insights on these questions on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event will take place at the COMCENTER Brühl, Mainzerhofstraße 10 in Erfurt. Companies, educational institutions, and organizations interested in learning more about the topic and networking are invited. The GPS has been active in Thuringia for about a year, preparing young people for access to the Thuringian labor market with a comprehensive curriculum, combining the teaching of language skills and basic knowledge of German society and the economy with individual career coaching, up to placement in training occupations.
“The aim of our specialist conference is to contribute to building a network between companies, educational institutions and organizations,” says Sabine Wosche, Managing Director of LEG Thüringen, where the GPS is based. “Through exchange, new practice-oriented solutions emerge for the diverse challenges we all face when it comes to integrating international skilled workers.”
In addition to diverse networking opportunities, the specialist forum primarily provides impulses and best practices that show how companies can successfully work with international young people. An ideas workshop and topic tables convey knowledge on a wide range of topics, including cultural peculiarities, the recruitment of participants, language qualification, and the challenges of placement. The geographical focuses of the event are Ukraine and Latin America, where GPS has established contacts, especially in Mexico Contacte. Partners from Mexico are present at the specialist forum and give lectures on the learning, everyday, and working culture in Latin America.
Background:
The German Professional School (GPS) was founded on the initiative of the Thuringian Ministry of Economics and is based at LEG Thüringen . The central service unit is located in Erfurt; the four main locations are spread across Thuringia, namely in Eisenach, Mühlhausen, Gotha and Jena. The GPS ensures the fundamental employability of international young professionals by, in particular, teaching German language skills and intercultural competencies, conducting learning level assessments and individual potential analyses, establishing Contacte with Thuringian companies, organizing internships and propaedeutic courses, and finally guiding the participants until they conclude a training contract with a Thuringian company.
