State takes over former Bundeswehr site Mühlhausen

The Free State of Thuringia is taking over the former Bundeswehr site Görmar-Kaserne in Mühlhausen. To this end, representatives of the Federal Institute for Real Estate (BImA) and LEG Thüringen signed a purchase agreement yesterday, Thursday, December 11, in Erfurt. Accordingly, LEG will acquire, develop, and market the 35.4-hectare area on behalf of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The purchase price amounts to nearly 2.8 million euros. The handover of the site by the Bundeswehr will take place by December 31. "With the acquisition of the site, we have created an essential prerequisite to develop and market the barracks together with the city of Mühlhausen," said Thuringia's Minister of Economic Affairs Wolfgang Tiefensee. Further steps will follow. "The state is committed to Mühlhausen. We want to create a commercial location here that is attractive to potential investors from Germany and abroad." "With this sale, the Federal Institute for Real Estate has once again achieved what it always strives for with such properties, but which does not always succeed: a seamless transition between the return by the Bundeswehr and the takeover by the buyer," said Hans-Arno Simon, head of the main sales office of BImA in Erfurt. On behalf of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, LEG, together with the city of Mühlhausen, had prepared a feasibility study and a site development concept for the Görmar-Kaserne last year. In a first step, the existing infrastructure is now to be disentangled and initial conversion measures carried out in the coming months. The basis for the development is an urban development contract. The infrastructure, building fabric, and real estate of the site are in good condition. On the training and exercise area to the north, there are also expansion options for the development of larger contiguous industrial areas. The marketing of the site is already underway: A dedicated website has been set up (www.goermar-kaserne-muehlhausen.de), and the project was also presented at the Expo Real trade fair for locations and real estate in Munich at the beginning of October. On October 24, an entrepreneur day took place at the site.
