Orangerie in Gera shows permanent exhibition on Otto Dix

"Otto Dix – Trust Your Eyes" is the title of the new permanent exhibition, which has been showing works by the famous 20th-century artist in the Orangerie in Gera since October 3. In addition to original paintings by the artist from the 1920s – his most famous creative phase – visitors can also see immersions, i.e., artistic projections and installations that allow them to "dive into" the works of art.

Otto Dix is a great son of the East Thuringian city of Gera, for he was born here in 1891. His work spans from the Imperial era to the period after 1945, and he is one of the most renowned painters and graphic artists of his century. With the late Baroque Orangery, a building steeped in tradition in the heart of the city, Gera has chosen a representative venue to honor the artist. The permanent exhibition was conceived by Ulrike Lorenz, director of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar. The original paintings are complemented by installations with light, films, and immersions, so that the art of the painter and graphic artist can be experienced in a variety of ways. In addition, the exhibition shows loans, for example from the Niescher Collection as well as from the Otto Dix Foundation in Vaduz, founded in 1983 by the artist's widow, Martha Dix, which strongly advocated for the now-found representative solution.
