The next generation of innovative batteries comes from Thuringia

With its new product, IBUvolt NMO, the company aims to eliminate the need for lithium and other rare raw materials in future battery production. NMO is primarily composed of naturally occurring materials, including sodium, which can be extracted from sea salt and salt domes, and manganese, the third most abundant metal. The company has developed a two-stage process that enables significantly more energy-efficient manufacturing than many other methods. Furthermore, the new battery type is considered very safe. The material is particularly well-suited for use in smaller electric vehicles, such as those used in city centers. Jörg Leinenbach, CEO of IBU-tec, explains: “IBU-tec is already the technology leader in Europe for LFP (lithium iron phosphate) cathode material. With the sodium-ion battery, the next generation of innovative batteries is already in the starting blocks – and IBU-tec is once again among the pioneers and drivers of innovation.
