Improvement of infrastructure on the large industrial area Gera-Cretzschwitz: In recent months, LEG has widened Wernsdorfer Straße, one of the main access roads in the industrial park, over a length of 150 meters to 6.35 meters including a footpath. Next Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 12:00 PM, the official opening will take place as part of a press-public event by Gera's Mayor Kurt Dannenberg and LEG Managing Director Andreas Krey.
"The large industrial area Gera-Cretzschwitz is of great importance for the city, but also for the entire East Thuringia region," says Andreas Krey ahead of the release. "It is excellently connected to the transport infrastructure and also offers attractive areas for investors with larger space requirements, as the settlement of Amazon and Ammon in recent years has shown. Our goal is to attract more companies to the site, and the widening of Wernsdorfer Straße makes an important contribution to this."
„With the completion of the Wernsdorfer Straße, we are improving the conditions for companies to invest and for our economic structure to continue growing. Gera-Cretzschwitz in particular shows the potential that lies in consistent site development,“ emphasizes Gera's Mayor Kurt Dannenberg.
The development of the large industrial area was carried out by LEG mainly between 2018 and autumn of last year. In addition to the internal and external development, two stormwater retention basins and two bridges were built as part of flood protection. In 2020, LEG sold around 25 hectares to the logistics giant Amazon; the center is now in operation and employs around 2,300 people. In April 2024, the Nuremberg family company Ammon Beschläge-Handels GmbH acquired around 6 hectares, and the investor plans to begin planning for its project next year. To further qualify the site for the settlement of additional companies, LEG, in coordination with the city, began planning in the third quarter of 2024 to widen Wernsdorfer Straße; it commissioned the engineering firm Hoffmann.Seifert.Partner for this purpose. Project management was undertaken by ABW Planungs GmbH. The contract for the expansion was awarded to HELI Transport und Service GmbH; it carried out the widening of the road from mid-August to mid-November, so that the road can now be released for use.
