Commissioning of the CATL battery factory at Erfurter Kreuz can officially start

Today, the second partial approval for commissioning within the framework of the BImSch application (Federal Immission Control Act) of the battery factory was handed over in the industrial area “Erfurter Kreuz“ in Amt Wachsenburg. This allows the Chinese battery manufacturer CATL to ramp up production to a partial capacity of 8 GWh per year in the coming months.

The company is investing around 1.8 billion euros in Thuringia in the largest cell production facility in Europe and the first battery factory in Germany. This is expected to create around 2,000 jobs.
