For about a year now, the world market leader in battery manufacturing, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd (CATL), has been producing in Arnstadt, Thuringia. Together with the nearby Battery Innovation and Technology Center (BITC), which is a site of the Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems (IKTS), the company is developing models for calculating the service life of batteries. The basis of the work is Germany's first battery lifespan development model at the site, and the cooperation between CATL and BITC/IKTS is also the first of its kind in Germany. The previous collaboration between CATL and IKTS called “BattLife” is now being expanded with the new project “BattForce”: The test center operated by the partners is being expanded and operated with new technology. The benefit is great, because much depends on the increased service life of the storage systems; it is a decisive criterion for optimizing production, maintenance, and resource utilization processes.
