Thanks to cutting-edge technology from Thuringia: The foundations of life are in focus

Together with their teams, they have developed a technology to examine living objects using high-resolution fluorescence microscopy without disturbing them with light. To achieve this, they expanded upon the so-called grating-sheet microscopy technique and combined it with innovative optical elements. Furthermore, they created a way to simplify the handling of this complex system and enabled the widespread use of common sample carriers. This opens up entirely new possibilities for observing and better understanding processes within cells – in basic research and in the search for new diagnostic methods or active ingredients against many diseases. Thanks in part to these new developments, Jena is once again living up to its reputation as a high-tech location for the optical industry. (gro)
