This is how the Belgian microchip manufacturer Melexis is investing five million euros in its company location here. Seven new high-volume test systems and two fully automatic packaging machines will be put into operation this year. Managing Director Jessica Völlger describes the expansion as a "clear commitment to the Erfurt location“. Over the past five years, the number of employees in Erfurt has been increased from 220 to 250.
Melexis develops, tests, and delivers integrated circuits, but does not produce them itself. Chip manufacturing is carried out at the neighboring X-Fab, which invested more than one million euros in 2021 in an expansion of its cleanroom capacity. X-Fab has been successfully operating in Erfurt for 30 years; this year marks its anniversary. (hw)
