Since the previous capacities in Waltershausen were no longer sufficient due to good business development, 22 employees moved to the Gotha-Süd industrial area. Since November 2024, they have been producing control cabinets for energy suppliers and industry on 1,600 m² of space – with a view to doubling the assembly volume.

"The courage to make decisions pays off – the hall and order books are full," emphasized Christoph Menger, Head of Electrification and Automation at Siemens Germany. Minister President Mario Voigt praised Siemens as an "industrial anchor for Thuringia." Location factors such as proximity to the A4, public transport connections, and good cooperation with the owner of the industrial site, the Thuringian State Development Company, tipped the scales in favor of Gotha.

The vacated space in Waltershausen is also being used: a new test field has been set up there. Siemens employs a total of around 580 people in Thuringia. In subsidiary companies in Rudolstadt, vacuum components, X-ray tubes and detectors for medical and industrial use are manufactured, while in Unterwellenborn system solutions and system components for the automotive industry are produced. The Erfurt generator plant, on the other hand, belongs to Siemens Energy AG.
