Record for electricity from renewable energies

Thuringia is on a good path to achieving the nationwide goal of 80 percent of electricity from renewable energies by 2030. According to the Thuringian State Office for Statistics, the share of renewable energies in total electricity consumption in the first quarter of 2024 was 63.9 percent. This corresponds to 1,956.2 gigawatt hours (GWh) and an increase of 12.6 percent compared to the previous year. Wind energy accounted for the largest share at 66.5 percent, but energy from biomass and photovoltaics also recorded increases. In Germany, the share in the first half of 2024 was 58 percent, according to projections by the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg and the German Association of Energy and Water Industries.
