The company, recently named a "Hidden Champion," has experienced considerable growth in recent years. Following investments in the acquisition of parts of the HC Starck Group, QSIL, which specializes in high-performance materials for the semiconductor industry, is expanding its headquarters in Ilmenau. The foundation stone for the "Quartzschmelze 3" production building was laid in July. The new building will house state-of-the-art billet melting furnaces for the production of billets – hollow cylindrical products made of quartz glass. It will also contain machinery for further processing, logistics for technical components and raw materials, as well as offices.
QSIL's high-purity quartz glass, with its unique combination of properties, finds widespread application in the semiconductor industry, mechanical engineering, analytics, and fiber optics. The expansion investment amounts to €20 million for buildings and machinery. The number of employees has been steadily increasing in recent years, and currently employs around 250 people in Ilmenau.
