The company, recently named a “Hidden Champion“, has seen considerable growth in recent years. After investments in the acquisition of parts of the H.C. Starck Group, QSIL, which specializes in high-performance materials for the semiconductor industry, among other things, is expanding its headquarters in Ilmenau. The cornerstone for the production building “Quartz Melting Plant 3“ was laid in July. In the new building, so-called billets – hollow cylindrical products made of quartz glass – will be produced in the latest generation of billet melting furnaces. In addition, machines for further processing, logistics for technical components and raw materials, as well as offices will find space here.

QSIL's high-purity quartz glass is widely used in the semiconductor industry, mechanical engineering, analytics, and fiber optic applications due to its combination of special properties. The expansion investment amounts to 20 million euros for buildings and the machinery park. The number of employees had already been continuously increasing in recent years, so that currently around 250 employees are employed in Ilmenau. (maa)
