On May 27, 2025, Fraunhofer IKTS and thyssenkrupp nucera opened the first pilot production facility for SOEC stacks (Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cells) in Arnstadt. The innovative high-temperature electrolysis technology enables particularly efficient production of green hydrogen – a key component for decarbonizing energy-intensive industries. The plant, with a planned annual capacity of 8 MW, marks the transition from research to industrial application. It was inaugurated in the presence of high-ranking representatives from politics, science, and business, including Thuringia's Minister President Mario Voigt. The strategic partnership between Fraunhofer IKTS and thyssenkrupp nucera strengthens the hydrogen technology portfolio and underscores Thuringia's importance as a location for future technologies.
