The southwest of Thuringia is a sought-after location for investors from a wide range of industries, and industrial and commercial areas in the region have a high occupancy rate. Against this backdrop, the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new area "An der B19“ near Schmalkalden took place in June, which is designed for the settlement of industry and commerce. The starting signal was given by Thuringia's Minister of Economic Affairs Wolfgang Tiefensee, State Secretary for Economic Affairs Carsten Feller, and Schmalkalden's Mayor Thomas Kaminski.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs is funding the development with 24 million euros; the total cost of the project amounts to 27 million euros. The funds come from the joint task "Improvement of the Regional Economic Structure". In its final expansion, the area will cover around 35 hectares, thus offering sufficient space for ten to twelve larger company settlements or expansions of existing businesses. Initial companies have already signaled interest in settling there; the city is already conducting corresponding talks. (hw)
