Southwest Thuringia is a sought-after location for investors from a wide range of sectors, and industrial and commercial parks in the region boast high occupancy rates. Against this backdrop, the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new "An der B19" site near Schmalkalden, designed for industrial and commercial development, took place in June. The ceremony was officiated by Thuringia's Minister of Economic Affairs, Wolfgang Tiefensee, State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Carsten Feller, and Schmalkalden's Mayor, Thomas Kaminski.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs is funding the development with €24 million; the total project costs amount to €27 million. The funds come from the joint federal and state program "Improvement of the Regional Economic Structure." Once fully developed, the site will cover approximately 35 hectares, providing enough space for ten to twelve larger companies to establish operations or expand existing businesses. Several companies have already expressed interest in locating there; the city is currently in discussions with potential investors. (hw)
