With the positive decision of the Senate of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres (HGF) to establish the new institute, the presence of the Helmholtz Association as Germany's largest scientific organization in Thuringia will be expanded. From 2028, HIPOLE will be financed with up to 5.5 million euros annually by the federal government (90 percent) and the state (10 percent). In addition, during the start-up phase, the state will support the costs for the institute's buildings and equipment with up to 14 million euros.
The foundation for the current success was laid by the state in 2014 with the establishment of the Center for Energy and Environmental Chemistry (CEEC), which built up considerable expertise in the field of energy storage in Jena. At HIPOLE, researchers combine research approaches from polymer chemistry, materials science, artificial intelligence (AI), and state-of-the-art analytical methods based on this. (hw)
