Thuringia's foreign trade volume was able to continue its growth trend despite significant supply bottlenecks in recent months. Both exports and imports continued to increase in the month of May. Contrary to the nationwide development, however, an interim trade balance deficit did not occur. According to preliminary figures from the Federal Statistical Office, the Free State achieved an export surplus of approximately EUR 125 million in May. Nevertheless, a trend towards a convergence of export and import values is emerging. This is evidently partly due to rising import prices.
