In cooperation with the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce for Central Asia, LEG Thüringen conducted a market exploration trip to Kazakhstan, with stops in Almaty and Astana, from October 18 to 22, 2009. Seven Thuringian companies seized the opportunity to get to know the economically emerging country and establish initial business contacts. A cooperation exchange in Almaty and further individually tailored programs in Almaty and Astana provided the participants with good opportunities to do so. With its rapid economic development, Kazakhstan is far ahead of its neighboring countries in Central Asia. Although the current international economic crisis is taking a heavy toll on the country, it offers foreign companies many opportunities for a successful market entry. The development in this resource-rich country is characterized by high dynamism, and interesting approaches are emerging for Thuringian companies in the areas of production, infrastructure, and construction. The high-tech and research-intensive industries as well as agriculture are also to be primarily developed and built up in Kazakhstan in the coming years.
