ERFURT_It has already taken place on train platforms, for example in Frankfurt am Main, as well as on commuter parking lots along the highways of this republic, and even on the Baltic Sea beach – addressing skilled workers who do not (or no longer) work in Thuringia is a task that the Thuringian Agency For Skilled Worker Recruitment (ThAFF) has been carrying out for many years and in a variety of ways. On Saturday, June 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., it will be that time again at the Volkshaus Sömmerda, where ThAFF will inform commuters and returnees about job opportunities in the Sömmerda district. The venue is not as unconventional as many others in the past, and yet it is a special commuter and returnee day for ThAFF: it is the 100th edition of this format.
The targeted approach to this group of skilled workers, which we want to win back for the Thuringian labor market, is even more urgent today than at the very first edition of the Commuter Day in 2008“; says Sabine Wosche, Managing Director of LEG, where ThAFF is located. "The demand for skilled workers in our domestic companies has continuously increased, and at the same time we note that among commuters and returnees the desire to return home has become stronger – people want to be closer to family and lifelong friends again, to better reconcile family and work.“
In total, around 1,500 conversations were conducted by the experts of ThAFF during the past 99 action days. While ThAFF used to address people at various locations across Germany, action days have now proven effective primarily in the Thuringian regions – preferably on weekends and public holidays, when Thuringians who are currently not working in the Free State are back in their home region and can inform themselves about job options. Meanwhile, ThAFF continuously alternates commuter days in all Thuringian districts and independent cities. In doing so, it can rely on close cooperation with local stakeholders – with partners from economic development and regional management.
This weekend in Sömmerda, skilled workers will also be addressed in close cooperation with the district. Interested parties will also receive a compact picture of working and living in the region and important tips for the decision "Back Home". The offer also includes recommendations for using job portals and links for applications as well as an application document check.

Background:
The Thuringian Agency For Skilled Worker Recruitment (ThAFF) is based at LEG Thüringen. On behalf of the Thuringian Ministry of Labour, it pursues the goal of helping Thuringian companies meet their ever-growing need for skilled workers. On the other hand, it also aims to support young people who are about to enter working life, as well as commuters or potential returnees, in (re)taking up professional activity in Thuringia.
