Thuringia's World Heritage Site is a major draw

Testaments to a unique culture and a primeval forest in the heart of Germany – Thuringia's UNESCO sites tell fascinating and moving stories. At Wartburg Castle in Eisenach, Martin Luther translated the New Testament; the Classical Weimar and Bauhaus ensembles in Weimar span the arc from the Middle Ages to modernity; and in Hainich National Park, nature is allowed to be nature. Erfurt preserves particularly valuable evidence of Jewish life and is on its way to being added to the World Heritage List.

Weimar is a true cultural universe and arguably THE UNESCO city in Germany, boasting an impressive 19 World Heritage Sites. These include classics like the homes of Goethe and Schiller, and the French-style Belvedere summer residence on the city's outskirts. In 2023, however, the Bauhaus ensemble takes center stage, as this pioneering modernist project celebrates its 100th anniversary. To mark the birthday of the "Haus am Horn," Weimar explores the question "How will we live?" Numerous exhibitions, such as those at the Bauhaus Museum Weimar, the Nietzsche Archive, and the Museum Neues Weimar, offer insights. Thuringia is a land of World Heritage!
