The city of Jena and the Panyu district of Guangzhou have maintained close ties for many years. Since 2007, a friendly cooperation agreement has existed between the cities with the aim of developing and expanding bilateral exchanges and thus deepening German-Chinese relations.
Under the title "Guangzhou meets Thuringia: The Digital Panyu-Jena Day 2021," a comprehensive digital event took place on the virtual exhibition platform "Flying Fair Thuringia" on November 3, 2021. Following the opening ceremony with presentations from official representatives of the Panyu District, the City of Jena, the Free State of Thuringia, LEG Thüringen Development Corporation), and the City of Guangzhou, engaging keynote speeches on the topic of "Smart Cities" were given. Afterwards, discussions and exchanges on the topics of Smart Cities, Life Sciences, Optics/Optoelectronics, Sensor Technology, and Science and Research took place in the interactive digital conference room. Further networking opportunities were available in the digital exhibition space, where approximately 40 Chinese and 40 Thuringian companies and partners presented their products and services.
