Construction work is expected to begin at the end of next year. The renovation phase recently started with initial examinations of the building structure of the former women's clinic, which is located in close proximity to the city and other university sites. This building complex is being renovated; in the future, it will house university departments such as pharmacy and parts of nutritional sciences. 6065 square meters will provide space for laboratories, seminar rooms, and lecture halls, as well as areas for student work and scientific communication. In addition, there will be a new building for the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and its Institute for Data Science, covering 2511 square meters.
For the financing of the project, the Free State will provide a total of 54.3 million euros from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as well as 27.2 million euros from state funds by 2029. Ten percent of the planned total expenditure will be contributed by the Friedrich Schiller University and the DLR as future users. (hw)
