The groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of development for a new business park on the site of the former Fischerhütte glassworks in Ilmenau. The main tenant will be Moteon GmbH, a subsidiary of Infineon AG, which is relocating from the Ilmenau Technology and Start-up Center to a new headquarters. The company develops innovative solutions at the intersection of simulation, software, and engineering, working closely with industry and research partners. Ilmenau, with its strong university and research landscape, offers ideal conditions for this. Moteon currently employs over 30 people and also benefits from its proximity to the Ilmenau University of Technology when recruiting skilled professionals.
Simultaneously, another building is being constructed in the Fischerhütte district, which will be occupied by the B&B Hotels chain. The investor is focus real estate GmbH from Munich. The new hotel strengthens Ilmenau's tourist and economic infrastructure and complements the company's location with an attractive accommodation option.
The development of the long-abandoned site was prepared through extensive investments totaling approximately €6.3 million, including flood protection measures, new bridges, and the renaturalization of the Ilm riverbank. The project is supported by the Free State of Thuringia with €4.5 million in funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The combination of business development, new hotel construction, and urban renewal will sustainably transform the former industrial wasteland – further strengthening Ilmenau as a modern business and investment location.
