On the site of the former Fischerhütte glassworks in Ilmenau, the development of a new business quarter began with a ceremonial groundbreaking. The main tenant will be Moteon GmbH, a subsidiary of Infineon AG, which is moving out of the Ilmenau Technology and Start-up Center and establishing a new company headquarters. The company develops innovative solutions at the interface of simulation, software, and engineering sciences, working closely with industry and research partners. Ilmenau, with its strong university and research landscape, offers ideal conditions for this. Moteon currently employs over 30 people and also benefits from its proximity to the Technical University of Ilmenau when searching for skilled workers.
At the same time, another building is being constructed in the Fischerhütte district, which will be used by the hotel chain B&B Hotels in the future. The investor is focus real estate GmbH from Munich. The new hotel strengthens Ilmenau's tourism and economic infrastructure and adds an attractive accommodation offering to the business location.
The development of the long-fallow area was prepared through extensive investments totaling around 6.3 million euros, including for flood protection, new bridges, and the renaturation of the Ilm riverbank. The project is supported by the Free State of Thuringia with 4.5 million euros in funding from the ERDF fund. With the combination of business settlement, hotel construction, and urban upgrading, the former industrial wasteland is being sustainably transformed – further strengthening Ilmenau as a modern economic and investment location.
