Experience Chagall at the Kunsthaus Apolda

"The art museum is always worth a trip to Apolda" – this is the concluding sentence of the Apolda Avantgarde Art Museum's website. And indeed, thousands of visitors come to the town in central Thuringia every year to experience exhibitions of national importance. This autumn, starting September 17, the museum will present 80 prints by Marc Chagall under the title "From Vitebsk to Paris".

Apolda lies between Weimar and Jena, two cities that boast a world-class cultural heritage, including the Weimar Classics around Goethe and Schiller, the Bauhaus, and the Jena Romantics around Schelling and Novalis. This inspiring proximity was also a driving force behind the active "Kunstverein Apolda Avangarde e. V." (Apolda Avangarde Art Association), founded in 1994, which, together with the town and district, established the Kunsthaus Apolda Avangarde (Apolda Avangarde Art House) in 1995. Since then, 600,000 visitors have experienced groundbreaking exhibitions here. Projects by the association have been dedicated to artists such as Francisco de Goya, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, and Andy Warhol. For the current Chagall exhibition, the Pablo Picasso Museum in Münster provided the exhibits as loans – including numerous unique pieces and rare proofs and trial prints by the 20th-century artist.
