Eisfeld attracts investors with new areas near the highway

Investors looking for a location in South Thuringia will soon benefit from a new offering in Eisfeld: Today marked the official start of the development of the commercial and industrial area "Südlicher Gutsweg“. Thuringia's Minister of Economic Affairs Wolfgang Tiefensee, LEG Managing Director Andreas Krey, and the Mayor of the city of Eisfeld, Sven Gregor, were on site for the groundbreaking ceremony. By the end of 2019, the Thuringian State Development Corporation (LEG) is developing an area of around 31 hectares here on behalf of the city of Eisfeld, which will be marketed to investors and entrepreneurs after the measures are completed. A total of nearly 4.2 million euros is being invested, of which the state is contributing around 3.7 million euros. “Eisfeld and the entire district of Hildburghausen have experienced excellent economic development in recent years,” said Tiefensee. This is also evident from the fact that the existing commercial areas in the region are already 83 percent utilized. “It is especially important for Eisfeld to give the upswing more space and to develop new areas with which the city can score points in the competition for investors and settlements,” said the minister. “We are laying the foundation for this today.” The new area is being created in the immediate vicinity of the existing commercial and industrial area “Eisfeld Süd,” which is now fully occupied. It covers 70 hectares and was already developed between 1993 and 2001. Today, 13 companies with around 1,200 jobs produce here, including the American investor Harry’s, which has been manufacturing blades for wet razors here and at other locations in Eisfeld with a total of 600 employees since taking over Feintechnik GmbH Eisfeld in 2014. “The Eisfeld location has repeatedly demonstrated its attractiveness in the past,” explained LEG Managing Director Andreas Krey on the occasion of the groundbreaking ceremony. “We are building on this successful development and, with the new ‘Südlicher Gutsweg’ area, are creating new spaces for companies with jobs.” The construction work starting today includes, among other things, site clearance, land grading, and the laying of gas, electricity, broadband, water, and wastewater pipes, insofar as these are not already present due to the proximity to the older “Eisfeld-Süd” area. The “Südlicher Gutsweg” commercial and industrial area will particularly benefit from excellent transport connections: The Eisfeld-Nord and Eisfeld-Süd junctions of the A 73 federal motorway are located in the immediate vicinity and can be reached quickly via a feeder road. The internal development is being handled by the LEG through the construction of around 1,000 meters of access roads. There will be no focus on specific industries in the development and marketing of the site in the coming years. Rather, it builds on the broad industry structure in the Eisfeld region and targets investors from a wide variety of economic sectors.
