Eisfeld attracts investors with new sites near the motorway

Investors seeking business locations in southern Thuringia will soon benefit from a new offering in Eisfeld: Today marked the official start of development for the "Südlicher Gutsweg" commercial and industrial park. Thuringia's Minister of Economic Affairs, Wolfgang Tiefensee, LEG Managing Director Andreas Krey, and the Mayor of Eisfeld, Sven Gregor, were present for the groundbreaking ceremony. By the end of 2019, the Thuringian State Development Corporation (LEG), commissioned by the city of Eisfeld, will develop an area of ​​approximately 31 hectares, which will then be marketed to investors and businesses. A total of nearly €4.2 million is being invested, of which the state is contributing approximately €3.7 million. “Eisfeld and the entire Hildburghausen district have experienced outstanding economic development in recent years,” said Tiefensee. This is also reflected in the fact that existing commercial and industrial sites in the region are already 83 percent occupied. “It is particularly important for Eisfeld to further fuel this growth and develop new areas that will allow the town to compete for investors and new businesses,” the minister continued. “We are laying the foundation stone for this today.” The new area is being built in the immediate vicinity of the existing “Eisfeld South” commercial and industrial park, which is now fully occupied. It covers 70 hectares and was developed between 1993 and 2001. Today, 13 companies with around 1,200 employees operate there, including the American investor Harry's, which, since acquiring Feintechnik GmbH Eisfeld in 2014, manufactures razor blades at this and other locations in Eisfeld, employing a total of 600 people. “The Eisfeld location has repeatedly proven its attractiveness in the past,” explained LEG Managing Director Andreas Krey at the groundbreaking ceremony. “We are building on this successful development and creating new space for companies and jobs with the new ‘Südlicher Gutsweg’ (Southern Estate Road) area.” The construction work beginning today includes, among other things, clearing the building site, leveling the terrain, and laying gas, electricity, broadband, water, and sewage lines, insofar as these are not already present due to the proximity of the older “Eisfeld-Süd” (Eisfeld-South) area. The “Südlicher Gutsweg” commercial and industrial park will particularly benefit from excellent transport connections: The Eisfeld-Nord and Eisfeld-Süd interchanges of the A73 motorway are in the immediate vicinity and can be reached quickly via a feeder road. LEG will provide internal access by constructing approximately 1,000 meters of access roads. There will be no focus on specific industries in the development and marketing of the area in the coming years. Rather, it builds on the broad industry structure in the Eisfeld region and targets its approach to investors from a wide variety of economic sectors.
