Handover of competition results in Blankenhain

Submitted: Fresh ideas for redesigning central places in Blankenhain.

ERFURT_ An important milestone in the redesign of central locations in Blankenhain (Weimarer Land) has been reached: The interdisciplinary competition for the future urban redevelopment of the central market square, Kirchstraße, and Wirthstraße area has concluded. The five-member evaluation panel unanimously awarded first place to participants Dipl. Ing. Heike Roos, Freie Landschaftsarchitektin BDLA /Stadtplanerin DASL, in collaboration with Ingenieurbüro Katzung GmbH, Weimar. The designs and elaborations are intended to serve as a foundation for the redesign of the area in the coming years. A "preview" has been provided since today, Friday, May 24, 2024, by a new construction sign at the entrance to the area between the market and the church, which was officially erected in the presence of Blankenhain's Mayor Jens Kramer, LEG Department Head Denis Peisker, and urban planner Heike Roos.

The competition was financed by the Thuringian Ministry of Economics, Science and Digital Society; management was handled by LEG Thüringen, and procedural support was provided by DSK Deutsche Stadt- und Grundstücksentwicklungs-gesellschaft mbH (Weimar office). The competition forms the basis for a comprehensive upgrade – currently, in a central location at the market square and St. Severi Church, there are dilapidated, unshaped traffic facilities and open spaces – an urban planning deficiency that is to be remedied through a modern, contemporary renovation.

All submitted works can now be viewed on the upper floor of the Blankenhain City Administration, Marktstraße 4, during opening hours.

Background

The competition and planned renovation measures took place and are taking place against the backdrop of the fact that Blankenhain, with the Spa & GolfResort Weimarer Land, will host the training camp of the German national team and the stay of the English national team during the European Championship from the end of May. In the course of this significant event of high state political interest, which directs major international media focus on Blankenhain and Thuringia and will serve as the basis for further future projects in the town, several infrastructures are currently being upgraded. This includes the redesign of the sports facility of FSV Grün-Weiß Blankenhain e. V., which will serve as an alternative venue for training camps of national football teams in the future and will be used by the club during regular operations. Additionally, as part of the interim use of the historic Blankenhain Castle as a media center, the renovation and enhancement of the castle forecourt are being carried out.
