Bringing research results into application faster

Thuringia's state capital Erfurt will become the seat of the German Agency for Transfer and Innovation (DATI). The DATI, as the federal government's central innovation and funding agency, will help to quickly transfer technological and social research results into economic and societal applications. It will thus become a driver and key point of contact for research-based transfer and innovation in Germany. In particular, the DATI is intended to strengthen cooperation between application-oriented universities and research institutions and the business community. The Thuringian Ministry of Economics had already applied for the DATI headquarters with its own concept in early 2022. Economics Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee welcomed the decision: "Germany's economy thrives on innovation. Good ideas and research results should be transferred into new products, processes, and services as quickly as possible. That is why we need to pick up the pace on innovation in the future. The DATI will ensure this from Thuringia for all of Germany." Tiefensee also interpreted the establishment of the federal institution as a signal of recognition for Thuringia's successes as an emerging technology and economic region. (hw)
