Another step towards establishing Thuringia's e-mobility competence cluster is the investment currently underway in Hildburghausen. LION Smart, a subsidiary of the Swiss holding company LION E-Mobility AG, is relocating its production line for the mass production of battery packs from Dingolfing to Thuringia. In a 2,500 m² hall, approximately four million battery cells can be assembled annually in a two-shift operation; this equates to 156 battery packs per day or 40,000 packs per year. The new site also features a 1,425 m² high-bay warehouse capable of storing up to 18,000 battery cells to fulfill large-scale customer orders. The Canadian manufacturer Vicinity Motor is among LION Smart's major customers. Production in Hildburghausen is scheduled to begin in February 2023. (maa)
