The cathedral steps with the massive Mariendom behind them and the St. Severi Cathedral create a unique, unforgettable stage for the audience. Berlioz's dramatic, heartfelt adaptation of the “Faust” material, his impulsive, captivating music promise an extraordinary artistic experience especially against this backdrop. In addition to the performances, accompanying events with lectures provide further insights into the “Faust” theme. The basis of Berlioz's musical masterpiece is the epochal stage play “Faust” by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who created this drama over 200 years ago in the classic city of Weimar – only a few kilometres from Erfurt away . Thuringia, which shows tradition and present, is a place where art and culture feel at home. (hw)
