Mobility is the engine for social and economic progress in Thuringia. This key topic will be addressed on Thursday and Friday, March 27/28, 2025, at the COMCENTER Brühl (Erfurt) during the Thuringian Mobility Conference, which is jointly organized by LEG and the Thuringian Ministry for Digital Affairs and Infrastructure (TMDI). In the presence of Thuringia's Minister of Infrastructure Steffen Schütz and State Secretary for Infrastructure Tobias J. Knoblich, three key initiatives to promote mobility will be in focus: The main topic is the Thuringian Mobility Network (TMN). It connects key players in Thuringia's transport sector and advances sustainable mobility in the Free State. On the first day of the event, Minister Schütz will officially launch the TMN website. Additionally, the official kick-off of the project "Mobilitätsverbund werthaltige ländliche Lebensräume“, or "MOVEwell“ for short, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), will take place. On the second day of the event, the focus will be on the "Integrated Timetable (ITF) Thuringia 2030“. This is a project that aims to implement customer-friendly scheduling through cross-district planning and the targeted networking of regional bus lines with each other and with the railway, thereby making public transport more attractive throughout Thuringia.
“Modern mobility and a sustainable infrastructure in all regions of Thuringia are the foundation for good development and lasting prosperity in our Free State. In the Thuringian Mobility Network, we have brought together relevant stakeholders from science, business, associations, and politics to develop the best mobility solutions for our state. All modes of transport are considered equally and are meaningfully interconnected. The focus is particularly on improving connections in rural regions. Because modern, digitally available, and reliable mobility services are the basis for equal living conditions in urban and rural areas,” says Minister Steffen Schütz ahead of the conference.
The TMN was founded last year. Its aim is to make the transport transition in Thuringia socially and regionally equitable. Among the speakers at the conference is Prof. Dr. Martin Weidauer from Erfurt University of Applied Sciences, who will speak on "Transport infrastructure and mobility in the context of spatial development“. Thomas Grewing from Erfurt Railway will present the potential for further development of rail freight transport in Thuringia.
The MOVEwell project is being implemented by a consortium of seven partner organizations under the leadership of the European Digital Innovation Hub Thuringia at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (BUW). The project aims to improve the development of rural areas in order to increase the attractiveness of the location for companies and skilled workers. The project will be presented on the first day of the event by Prof. Dr. Uwe Plank-Wiedenbeck (BUW) and will be further discussed on the second day. A lecture by Andreas Knuhr, team leader of Thuringian Agency For Skilled Worker Recruitment (ThAFF/LEG), highlights the statewide marketing campaign for recruiting skilled workers in public transport. “We are pleased to be able to host the mobility conference with our COMCENTER Brühl at the LEG company headquarters”, says LEG Managing Director Sabine Wosche. She will open the conference together with Andreas Minschke, head of the transport department at TMDI. “As a company, we are involved in various activities to expand mobility in Thuringia – this applies to our ThAFF as well as to our Department of Urban and Regional Development as the office for the “Integrated Timetable”. The ITF in particular is intended to make a significant contribution to the transport transition.”
This comprehensive project is being presented in the presence of State Secretary Tobias J. Knoblich, who opens the second conference day with a keynote speech. Subsequently, Constantin Pitzen from the company Fahrplangesellschaft B & B mbH presents the ITF framework plan, which forms the basis for future Thuringian regional bus services. Christoph Marquardt from the MOBILE ZEITEN office gives a lecture on the detailed planning of the regional implementation of the ITF.
The "Market of Mobility" is accompanied by a multifaceted exhibition that complements the conference both inside and outside the COMCENTER Brühl. Here, actors from Thuringia's transport sector present a wide range of solutions and services for rail, bus, and bicycle traffic. A highlight is the presentation of the "P-Mover," an autonomous minibus.
