Modern campus of Deutsche Bahn being built in Erfurt

For Deutsche Bahn, this is a unique investment in the future, and it is being realized in Thuringia's state capital: In the coming years, DB will build its central training facility near Erfurt's main train station and ICE hub. By 2028, a DB campus will be created with attractive opportunities for meetings and training for up to 60,000 employees annually. DB is investing approximately 110 million euros in the project. It will be realized on 7,600 square meters of space for seminars and events, as well as 15,000 square meters of space for green and recreational areas.

Germany's railway CEO Richard Lutz described the future campus as an “idea forge for the future of rail in Germany” at the official project launch in March in Erfurt. The DB Campus will fulfill many functions – it will be a training center, open up to business, industry and research, and thus drive innovation in the railway sector. In this context, Thuringia's Minister President Bodo Ramelow referred to the triad of the future DB Campus with the Erfurt University of Applied Sciences and the Gotha College of Transport Science. He confirmed that the railway is a central topic for urban and regional development. DB will use some existing buildings but also construct new ones. In addition, LEG is building a neighboring hotel by 2028. “After completion, it will be operated externally and will offer overnight accommodation for DB employees as well as other guests on weekends,” explained LEG Managing Director Sabine Wosche.
