Challenges such as supply bottlenecks and increased prices for preliminary products continue to shape overall economic development. However, a look at the statistics shows: In 2021, things went considerably more smoothly for Thuringia's export economy than in the previous year.
This is how the Free State, according to preliminary figures from the Federal Statistical Office, was able to increase its export volume in value terms by over 17.5% in the first three quarters of 2021 compared to the same period of the previous year, while imports rose by 17%. These figures are remarkable, even when taking into account the also sharply increased inflation rate. For the record: In the full year 2020, Thuringia's export volume had still fallen by around 5.7%.
