Thuringia as an automotive location

Thuringia - an automotive location with great appeal and tradition

As early as the beginning of the twentieth century, BMW made automotive history with the Dixi and the six-cylinder engines of the Ley brothers from Arnstadt. Today, global giants such as Daimler, Opel/PSA, Magna, Bosch, BMW, IHI and BorgWarner manufacture in Thuringia.

Thanks to its central location, Thuringia offers short distances to the automotive manufacturers of Germany and Europe. Besides a few large companies, flexible medium-sized enterprises are the main drivers of growth in this sector. The industry in Thuringia is characterized by a very broad range of technological expertise.

  • "Thuringia is Daimler's largest engine production site,
where about half of all Daimler engines are built."

  • "Thuringia is the largest Bosch location in eastern Germany,
    where high-tech sensors are produced."

  • "In Thuringia, structural components made of aluminum are produced for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars
and dual clutches for the Bugatti Veyron."

  • "Interior modules for the [company name] come from Thuringia."
Premium SUVs from Lamborghini and Bentley."

  • "The largest light alloy wheel factory in Europe is located in Thuringia."

  • "The testing systems for networking tests in the Porsche Mission E come from Thuringia."

  • "The structural components for VW's new generation of electric vehicles are manufactured in Thuringia."

  • "At least ten integrated circuits in every vehicle come from Thuringia."
