Sustainability in everyday work

As a state development corporation, we strive to improve every day and lead by example. Our goal is to make Thuringia a more attractive and livable place with each of our projects. This includes actively engaging in environmental protection and firmly integrating sustainability into our daily work. We want to continually reflect on our actions and contribute to an even greener Thuringia through many small, simple steps.

Guidelines in environmental management

  • In order to save resources and based on its own self-image, LEG relies on products and services from Thuringia whenever possible.
  • LEG promotes the sustainable development of both the company and all its projects throughout Thuringia.
  • LEG aims to embed environmental protection in the daily work routine of its employees and to continuously develop it further.

Implementation of our strategy

  • Photovoltaic system

Our roof is adorned with a photovoltaic system that provides us with electricity every day and helps us to make valuable finite resources unnecessary for LEG.

  • Toilet with rainwater

Our toilets use rainwater instead of treated drinking water for flushing. Each flush uses up to 9 liters. With over 200 employees, this saves us more than 1,800 liters of drinking water per day.

  • Sustainable catering

At our diverse events, it is important to us to keep the environmental aspect in mind. Therefore, sustainable catering is a given for us. When selecting our suppliers and our menu, we make sure to support local businesses and that the food is as meat-free and seasonal as possible.

We also typically order large glass bottles or carafes of water and serve the coffee creamer/milk in milk jugs and sugar in sugar bowls. To inform our event participants about the origin of the food, we use signs next to the dishes.

  • Party favors

We want to reduce plastic wherever possible. We pay attention to this not only in our daily work, but especially at both external and internal events. That's why we're always looking for creative and useful gifts for guests, such as our cake in a jar from the 12th Thuringian Foreign Trade Day in 2019, which produces absolutely no waste. Once the cake is eaten, the familiar glass jar can be reused as often and for as long as you like.

Our Staedtler pencils are also ideal for everyday use in the office. They impress not only with their visual and tactile quality, but are also made in Germany from local linden wood.

  • Environmentally friendly printing

We have been printing on environmentally friendly paper for many years and have now automatically set duplex and black and white printing on all printers in the company.

  • Paperless press clipping

Saving paper doesn't end with the decision to print double-sided. We want to scrutinize every single print job and therefore provide our employees with a link to our daily press clippings, which is digitally accessible to everyone at any time. This eliminates the need for anyone to print anything extra.

  • Paper donations for the daycare center

We want to reduce waste! For our various events, we still need new posters, which unfortunately can only be used once. Even in our daily office routine, single-sided misprints are often unavoidable. These amounts of unused paper don't end up in the trash, but instead are collected at a donation point for the daycare center, where the children can decorate the backs with artwork. Our children are thrilled with the huge pictures!

  • Thuringia Sustainability Agreement

For the third time in a row, we are a member of the Thuringia Sustainability Agreement and participate in the network for sustainable business practices.
