In early September, a group of Thuringian companies traveled to South Korea, Asia's fourth-largest economy. Organized jointly with our partners Germany Trade and Invest, OptoNet eV, and automotive thüringen eV, the itinerary included stops in the capital city of Seoul and the province of Gyeonggi-do. This highly innovative country, home to giants like LG, Samsung, Kia, and Hyundai, is attractive to Thuringian businesses both as an export market and as an exciting opportunity for research collaborations. The innovative startup culture and the country's research focus on autonomous vehicles, intelligent transportation systems, entertainment systems, battery technologies, and automated production provide starting points for cross-border collaborations with the Thuringian participants, who showcased their strengths in sensor technology, electronics, and electromobility. However, the networking event and investor seminar, also included in the program, primarily focused on presenting Thuringia as a business location and engaging with potential investors. This led to a follow-up visit by Carsten Schneider, Minister of State at the Federal Chancellery, to the ambassador in Seoul in early May 2024. On this occasion, Thuringia hosted a business breakfast where interesting Contact were made. (maa)
