The funds come from the federal program "City and Countryside," which has earmarked a total of €55 million for Thuringia by 2030. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, the funds are to be fully utilized.
Depending on the project, up to 100% of the funding comes from federal sources. Among other things, the construction and renovation of cycle paths, bridges, and parking facilities, as well as measures to improve everyday cycling within the framework of the 2030 climate protection program, are being supported. Minister Steffen Schütz (BSW) wants to expedite permitting processes and accelerate expansion. Cycle superhighways play no role in Thuringia – according to the ministry, the necessary conditions for the required utilization of 2,000 cyclists per day are lacking.
